Orbitforming is also sometimes called spinning, radial riveting, brackering, spin riveting, peening or noiseless riveting. Orbitforming is used to head, swage, crown, flare or draw a column or projection of malleable material and is used most often in aluminium fastening and assembly extrusion to produce a high quality head form aluminium - to rivet without extrusion and aluminium disruption of component extrusion material grain structure. While similar in nature to impact or compression aluminium forming and riveting in that a compressive axial load is applied to the part being formed, the axial load is greatly reduced due to the mechanical advantage of the angular orbiting tool and progressive forming extrusion and aluminium action. The axial load required for forming is reduced up to 80% with orbital due to this mechanical advantage.

Forming''s Research & Development has led to production extrusion dies that can run hundreds of aluminium thousands extrusion of pieces while maintaining very close tolerances. Similar to pressing clay into a mold, cold forming is a process that forces metal wire into dies causing the metal to take the shape of the aluminium die. Cold forming employs high pressure at room temperature extrusion to force the aluminium and extrusion metal to move beyond its elastic limit. It is predominately aluminium a closed die, forging operation used to form high quality parts and assure greater parts uniformity at a high rate of production. A cold forming machine can take 4-16 hours or more to setup, depending on the complexity extrusion of the product to be produced.
