Cold forming, or cold heading, uses forces greater than a metal''s elastic limit to form shapes without causing scrap material. Since raw material can be the most expensive aspect of a part, cold forming is often a lower cost alternative to screw machining and other manufacturing methods. Benefits of Cold Forming Quality Improved strength and reliability through work hardening crosshead and an crosshead uninterrupted grain flow Improved crosshead surface finish over screw machined components Design Flexibility Unique and diverse shapes, including parts with multiple diameters, extrusions, blind holes and through holes Large head to shank ratios without secondary machining Eccentric or asymmetrical bodies possible Reduced Costs Reduced scrap rates High production rates Ability to form parts to a net or near-net shape, which requires fewer secondary operations to achieve finished form Allows multi-piece assemblies to be manufactured as a single component Cold forming often uses significantly less raw material for the same component. In crosshead addition, assemblies of two or more pieces can be assembled into one part, eliminating assembly or welding operations and minimizing crosshead part handling. A wide variety crosshead of shapes, sizes, hole types, head styles and more can be achieved through the cold forming process. View our Capabilities page for more information on what we can do for you. Cold Forming is a high speed manufacturing process that produces parts by metal flow due to machine applied pressure as opposed to metal removal by cutting. Cold Forming is the primary manufacturing operation of the fastener industry. The capabilities of Cold Forming go far beyond just the manufacturing of fasteners extending into almost infinite variety of special designed parts. Two primary questions must be considered: ''The application in which the fastener is being used?'' and ''Who would be effected if the said product were to fail?'' It may be that the legal exposure vs. product failure ratio is acceptable to your company given the nature of your application. However, if you are unsure of the product application, or you know it is a critical application, you should choose a higher quality product. At we assure the quality of our fasteners starting with the raw material. We select and use only the highest quality raw materials. This is proven in the manufacturing of our fasteners, since cold forming self inspects the quality of the material used. The absence crosshead of crosshead surface defects on the cold formed product is strong evidence crosshead that the material used was a highly pure/high quality wire. Take any competitive product and hold it next to a Look at the side of the fastener head and the undersurface groove area, you will visibly see the difference crosshead.
